Season ticket validity on SMART Card

Hi,

I purchased a monthly season ticket at the beginning of October, touched and uploaded to my Smart card a week later.

Now i could not use it, however the 30 day has not expired. Had to buy another season ticket 

Which I dont understand is why this  October month ticket still shows " in progress" in my account, what does it mean in the confirmation email  " Ticket type: Travelcard Season ticket Valid for 1 month, or longer" why "You need to collect your sseason ticket to your smart card within 14 days" is in T&Cs ? 

if the reason is not that its validity starts when you touch and collect at a reader.?

So when the validity starts from? The day of purchasing or the touching & collecting day?
