For example, can you use a smartcard on Southern between Fareham and Southampton. Also could you use your card from Fareham to London Victoria also on southern?
I am thinking of moving to a smart card and this would be helpful!
Hi Toby, thank you for your question.
Unfortunately you would not be able to use your Smartcard on a Southern service between Fareham and Southampton. However, you'd be able to use your Smartcard from Fareham to London Victoria if your ticket is "Fareham to London Terminals" and you'd need to travel on an SWR train from Fareham to Clapham Junction and change there for a train to Victoria.
Hope this helps.
Can you clarify that if I have a smartcard for travel between Barnes and London Terminals, I will be able to use that smartcard onwards from London Waterloo, to Waterloo East, and London Bridge and Exit at City Thameslink (or indeed Cannon Street, Charing Cross etc or any other classified as London Terminals for the purposes of travelling in from the South West per the guidelines set up out here http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ticket_types/46587.aspx#terminals)
I wish to make sure that all rail companies are covered in this scenario because the Smartcard Map doesn't make it clear what is valid regarding usage entering or exiting 'London Terminals'
