Your predecessor SWT got rather shirty about cycles being chained to the fence on the platform at Martins Heron station, which happens because there are insufficient bike racks. Also, when my partner's cycle was stolen from the rack on platform 2 some years ago it transpires that it is hidden from CCTV by the ticket machine. The fence is good and secure but some lockers would be appreciated so I don't have to take helmet, pump, lights, trouser clips, etc with me to business meetings. Well, here's an opportunity to make improvements: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/commuting-by-bike-to-become-easier-in-new-year-following-funding-boost
It's the same at Fleet. When the station was refurbished, they built a massive, hideous two storey car park (which I believe cost £1,400 per parking space) but didn't provide nearly enough cycle stands so people have to chain their bikes to railings all the way up the platform. They also have the nerve to put signs up saying 'don't lock your bike to the railings or it will be removed' but on most occasions, there is nowhere else to leave it!
SWT started putting similar notices on people's bikes. Overnight reduction in the number of cycle commuters to the station. Got my MP involved - he was very good! Prompt reply to my query over where we should park, from the SWT CEO, no less. Cited safety concerns over the 'obstruction' and apologised no funding to undertake improvements, but the notices stopped. I don't actually mind locking my bike to the fence - people are generally sensible about it and there's no more of an obstruction than with the lamp posts - but it does annoy me having to heave so much cycling stuff around with me just because there's nowhere secure to leave it.
