I travel from Godalming to Waterloo in first class most days. We typically have 450s or occasionally 444s but i understand these we will soon have 442s?
Anyway, I’m keen to hear what’s happening to first class? Are the numbers of seats reducing significantly on these trains? I travelled in the 450 today which had a new, small 8 seat first class in the middle of the train - 2 pairs of 4 seats around tables - is this the future? I’m sure there used to be at least 24 seats in the first class compartment on these trains?
Uncomfortable, smaller seats in 1st class on all refurbished stock. Layout on long distance class 444 reduced from 2 plus 1 to 2 plus 2 layout with the same on the refurbished 442 stock to run on Portsmouth line. A reduction in quality of service. for 1 st class passengers and goodness don't we pay a premium.
The whole thing is disgraceful - essentially they are making first class the same or worse than standard class. I will be astounded if anyone still buys first class season tickets. I will be writing to my MP and I urge others to do the same.
I am having my first ride on a refurbished 450 in the smaller 1st Class area. I concur with recent comments about these. The seats are hard and uncomfortable. They have not been stitched together properly either as the foam is showing. Is it sensible to label one of the seats as a priority seat for disabled people right next to the gangway ? We should have been consulted on these with mock ups at Waterloo like GA did but SWRs arrogance for the comfort of ifs passengers ensured that this did not happen.
I have also sat on the 450's relocated first class and I personally like the first class; although the seats aren't that comfortable, I don't find them terrible. Also, you get tables, armrests and 2+2 seating, which you don't get in standard class on 450s.
