Before Christmas you polled passengers for their views on quiet zones on trains.
According to the web site 89% of voters said they should stay and there were 1,334 comments.
Could you give us an update on any progress since then? I was on a train last week where there were 5 people shouting into their phones at the same time in a quiet carriage.
I understand that SWR is unlikely to support an expensive way of dealing with the issues that were highlighted in the comments but there are some solutions which are free, eg asking guards to ask people to check which carriage they are in before they start bellowing into their phones and others eg producing larger more prominent warnings which would not be materially expensive.
Thanks
Unfortunately passengers choose to ignore quiet zone signs when it suits. I have pointed out signs to several passengers and in nearly all cases they are rude and totally ignore the request to not use phones. The staff need to enforce them for it to work, which they don’t. :(
i've always found that the quiet carriages work well going in to Waterloo as people are generally looking for a seat, and have a bit of time to walk through the carriage.
On the way from Waterloo, people are generally farntically chucking themselves at any carrriage with some breathing space left - not sure that whether it is quiet or not is a consideration. The flaw with the scheme is it only works with trains that are not overpacked, and where the service isn't delayed or broken down. As these are rare occurrences, the problem is likely to continue...
