With SWR's commitment to the environment, what plans are there to provide electric vehicle charging at SWR Station Car Parks? Using CHAdeMO Standard would ensure maximum compatibility and deliver a full charge easily during the day, particularly useful for more rural stations in Dorset, Devon and Hampshire where many drive a substantial distance to the station. Could the SWR Card be swiped to pay for the charging fee?
Hi Rich, that is an excellent question!
SWR are going to be adding at least 1500 parking spaces across the network, but i do not know if any of these will be charging spaces for electric cars. I will forward your suggestion to the relevant team and let you know if and when I hear anything back regarding this.
Thank you SWR for starting to catch up with the rest of the transport world. Even my namesake station operated by GWR has had a EV charging point for a couple of years. Is there any reasoning behind the choice of stations being provided with charging points ?
Basingstoke (18), Farnborough (12), Andover (10), Haslemere (8), Wokingham (6) and Fleet (6)
Peak stations for first class season ticket holders? Easily upgraded power supply? Stroppy commuter user groups? Likelyhood of good media coverage? Whatever, it is a drop in the ocean and 13A trickle charging is little better than an emergency back up when compared to the EV charging points provided by many larger supermarkets which can charge at 3kWh rating and some can charge at 12 or 15kWh for Tesla cars.
So if you live beyond Andover/Basingstoke/Haslemere or in the London suburban area, tough.
PS HEALTH & SAFETY warning. Do not attempt to charge your electric car from the 3rd rail! It will be your last conscious action - ever. ( it won't do the car much good either.....)
PPS have a look at ZAPMAPS ( other apps available) for the number and power of charging points in the UK.
